More Work
For my series of ethnic portraits this past quarter, I decided to try and get some portraits of a belly dancer. So my first attempt was to look on the internet and the first person I came across I called. Asha happened to be the first person and she is a fantastic belly dancer. I was so thrilled she was willing and excited to do a portrait session with me. She even brought 2 suitcases full of costumes for different options. It was the first time I successfully set up lights by myself, and therefore I am pretty proud of these shots. These are my top three favorites. Thanks again Asha for all your help.

Be sure and check out her site here.

Rutledge
Over the past three months I have been going back and forth to Rutledge Georgia to document and try to capture life in small town america. You are probably wondering why would I want to do that. Well A. I love small towns anyways and always meeting new people is a plus for me, and B. I was actually assigned this project for my photo essay class. Well I was assigned a small town and I picked Rutledge, which happened to be a great choice and it turned out to be one of my favorite projects to date. I really took the time to get to know the town. I went to the festivals there, I went just to visit, I went to go eat, I went at sunrise, and I went back more and more to get all kinds of pictures. I met the nicest most welcoming people and I could not have asked for a better experience. Pam, I am dedicating this posting to you. Pam owns The Barn Raising, a fantastic little antique and gift store where I got some really neat images.
These are some of my favorites from the past few months.
This was on my way into Rutledge one morning at Sunrise.

An old house at sunrise on my way to The Cotton Festival.

Some old chairs outside of an abandoned house in town.

The Caboose. An old part of a train that is now a great ice cream and deli shop right in the center of town.

Beauty chairs at Adrienne’s Salon on Main Street.

Details of the town.

The newly remodeled Baptist Church and a regular member of the church.

The Rutledge Grocery Store

Pam and Paul Jones at The Barn Raising

My favorite gifts and objects at the store.

Thanks again so much to everyone who was a huge help with the success of this project. I will try and get you copies of the images as soon as possible. Also, I entered the objects above into the PDN Student Annual contest, so please try and vote for them if you can. If you go to http://contest.pdnedu.com/bin/Rate and then go to page 5, scroll down till you see Catherine Isaac and the image of wooden children’s playing blocks. It’s a series of all my objects I shot at The Barn Raising in Rutledge.
Take care

The end of another one…
Tonight is my critique for my third quarter and then I will be officially moving on to my fourth quarter at PC. I really can’t believe how fast things have moved in Atlanta. This time last year I was waiting for my acceptance letter from PC, and here I am. It was a challenging yet rewarding quarter and I feel like I learned so much. So cheers to finishing up another quarter.
I can’t wait to go home over break and just relax for a few weeks. It is going to be great to have nothing to do. Well not nothing, I am a bridesmaid in a wedding which I am pretty excited about. One of my best friends Carson is getting married December 27th, so I have lots of festivities to go to coming up. I feel like I have neglected this blog, so I am going to post lots of my new work later this week.
But for now, check out some really cool greeting cards here, I own a boxed set and I love them. Cecily Ink makes some beautiful letterpress cards, and I love to send them out to people.
And check out Sarah Wilson, she is one of my other favorite photographers. She shoots for Oprah, Texas Monthly, Real Simple, CNN, and many more. Her work is very inspiring to me, and whenever I am in a stump, I look at her site. She has some really interesting editorial stories. Here are some of my favorite shots of hers, and be sure and check out the awesome photo story on Jasper Texas.

That’s all for now!
