Wedding Parties

This weekend is none the less, Mardis Gras Weekend! Or at least part of it. And ladies and gentlemen, there is a bachlorette party coming through! Yes, thats right! 20 girls, and 3 brides to be, but only one that we are celebrating this weekend. My good friend Libby is getting married on May 17th, and this weekend is her weekend with all the girls. So far I have been to Atlanta and Charleston for bachlorette parties, and they have both been a blast. But I am sure this one is going to be up there as well. 5 hotel rooms at the Iberville Suites. I honestly can say, I can’t wait. The last time I went to Mardis Gras was my freshman year at LSU, and that was at least 7 years ago.

So yes, check back for the updates on the fabulous weekend with the girls, and to see some really fun pictures!

I Just Never Thought…

A few months ago I found myself in the Borders bookstore at the BWI airport. I was browsing through different books, and one particular book caught my eye, I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell. Well, the front cover is actually kind of funny, and one can only imagine what kind of book this might be before even reading the first page. So I skimmed through the book, which seems to be a bunch of short stories, and I found myself fixated on this rather, utterly, disgusting, yet hilarious short story. I can’t even go into detail on what the story was about, but it was funny enough to make me want to go buy the book.

So a few weeks later, I find myself again a Border’s bookstore and this time buying Tucker Max’s book. He is a interesting character that boy. He drinks, has sex with total strangers, he is a huge obnoxious jerk to most people, and yet writes a book that people seem to love. It’s in a very strange way, GENIOUS! I always imagined there would be guys like that out there, and yes I kind of know a few, but they don’t even compare. It fascinates me that most of these women in his book either don’t care they are getting played, or they have very little respect for themselves. I mean really, some of the stories are down right degrading, yet so funny because you can just only imagine this incredibly drunk 20 something boy doing these unimaginable things.

It’s a book I never thought I would read, never the less enjoy! But I have to say, the few people I have recommended the book to so far, love it as much as I do!

A Bucket List!

So I haven’t seen the new movie The Bucket List, but it looks really good. It’s supposed to be about Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, two older men who are suffering from a terminal illness and realize they need to plan out a bucket list, ( a list of all the things they want to do before they die). So it got me thinking again, what should be on my bucket list? Granted, at the age of 24 I shouldn’t have to worry about my bucket list. But you never know, and just what if something happened to me (knock on wood), what would be on my list?

So here is a list of things I would love to do in my lifetime as of now:

  • take a road trip across the U.S. and stop in random cities and towns and just hang out for a few days
  • visit the Amazon and take a tour through the jungle
  • go on a safari in Africa
  • live in Texas for a week and see if I can figure out why Texan’s love Texas so much
  • be a model at a photo shoot for a day
  • go on a photography assignment for National Geographic
  • take a shot of Tequila, I have never done it
  • try out a job for a day that I have no idea how to do, like accounting or writing press release’s
  • throw a fabulous dinner party with food I cook, not food I buy
  • thats a good one, learn to cook something besides spaghetti
  • take a tour of St. Jude’s hospital and bring fun things for all the kids
  • Buy a Diana Camera
  • drive a really nice car for a day, one that I could never buy. That would be fun.

So that’s a start! I am sure I can think of a million things to go on my bucket list, but for now, I think that will do.

I kind of miss it!

Last night I was talking to my brother on the phone trying to give him advice on how to react to his very rude mentor in the lab he interns with. This guy is a real jerk, and not only complains all the time, but also compares him to other students and puts him down. And my brother said to me, “I look at all these other students who get really laid back mentors, and it’s just not fair. Why do I get stuck with someone like him?”

Well that my brother is all part of life. So it got me thinking about school, and my own experiences. While I was lucky enough to have great internships and mentors, I can remember some pretty rough days at school in design. Coming to class for design was never an option, but the worst was when you came prepared, or you had worked on a project all night, and you come into class and pretty much feel like you have to start at square one again. That was never fun. There were days when I called my parents begging to switch majors, or days when I asked myself, “can I really do this, can I survive years of this?” While I absolutely hated critiques at the time, I kind of miss them now. I miss the engaging part of critiques, the part where you always learn something, the part where you leave and you feel challenged and ready to go work again to make your project that much more kick a**. Yeah, there were days when I left so mad, but at the end of the day, I left the critique having learned something.

So my thought for the day is:
School, it’s a very neat, once in a lifetime experience that we sometimes take for granted.
